Newbie question about changing graphics cards?

If I have an ATI card in my PC, can I simply replace it with another ATI card without having to change drivers etc (e.g. 9800 to x800?)

Don't think so. You'd have to reinstall the drivers since it's a different card.

its the same driver package, but the acctual drivers themselves are different, you would need to reinstall them.. better downloading the latest drivers while your at it anyway.

Yep, uninstall the drivers for your current card, turn off the PC. Take all power off, then put the card in. Put the power back on, boot up. Windows XP (which I presume you have) will install a standard Microsoft driver to get you going. Then you just install your latest ATi driver.
