Help needed! New Monitors Display settings !

Hi Can you ps bear with me on this as quite new to Display settings etc. Cheers!
Last week my CRT Mitsubishi 930sb screen went yellow & dark so i tried to correct problem by fiddling about with the Monitors RGB,Moire etc and the (Nvidias) driver RGB,color correction settings, anyway "long story short" i messed it up and Mitsubishi finally replaced Monitor with same model which i've since installed, but small problem, the yellow has gone but the screen is a bit red now "probally from my earlier fiddling"..and when i tried to change the Res from 1152x864 down to 1024x768 i got this warning from the monitor ;"Warning signal frequency is out of range please change" Also Refresh rate is only 85hz which hurts my eyes and if i change it to 100hz (my usual) i get 2" 0f black around screen! So should i have uninstalled monitors drivers and the Nvidia drivers before i replaced monitor
    Thanks in advance Steve

To get rid of the red, you can "restore defaults" in the nvidia control panel (right click on desktop>properties> etc etc).

"Warning signal frequency is out of range please change"
sounds like it doesn't support that particular refresh rate at 1024x768 - try lowering the refresh before changing the res.
    2" 0f black around screen
if possible, use the buttons on the monitor to make the picture fill the screen.
So should i have uninstalled monitors drivers and the Nvidia drivers before i replaced monitor
Nah! They're plug and play so no need.
Definately no need if its the same model.

    Hope this helps!

You should use the correct monitor drivers for your current monitor.

You will have to adjust the screen controls for every resolution and refesh rate combination you use. Those settings are saved on the monitor itself.

Iv'e now got the monitor at 1024x768 120hz but it still hurts my eyes ! Also i forgot to mention whilst i was trying all sorts of remedys to fix last Monitor i actually went into the System32/drivers/spools/colors and deleted all the profiles and reinstalled the 930sb defaults, but as they are the same profiles that i messed with would that affect the new monitor that i am using now,or should i update them with a untouched version?
PS i dont know if this helps but i am currently using the monitors sRGB settings which cannot be adjusted! Is that OK?

Who told you cranking up to 120Hz would help your eyes? If 1024x768 @120hz didn't do anything for you, try 800x600 @75/85Hz

At those settings you should not be getting sore eyes, 85hz is enough for refresh rate. I would suggest getting your eyes tested as I doubt it is the monitor.

I have always had 1024x768 or higher with 100/120hz with no eye strain before,it's only since my old monitor was on the blink and by trying to correct it i fiddled with Monitors RBB/Moire settings, with obviously no success! But since then i have a new Monitor (Exact Model) which i plugged in without uninstalling old drivers etc! What i am trying to say is will the old adjustments be carried over to this Monitor? Even now, looking at the bottom of the screen its a wee bit blurry, but i do not want to start adjusting this monitor! (PS Ive tried Monitors Factory default settings)

The monitor stores it`s own settings and you need to pull up it`s own control panel via one of the monitor buttons.
Anything above 72Hz is more or less undetectable to the human eye and flicker free.
We normally set our crt`s up to no more than 85Hz and we`ve got guys and gals sitting in front of a screen for a full working day (with a break of course as per health and safety regs).
If you`re not happy, most manufacturers warranty will allow them to send a service guy out to set it up for you if it`s on a warranty and you contact them direct and complain or explain.
Personally, if 100Hz or 120Hz is still upsetting you, I`d go for an LCD or get your eyes checked out cos you may well have an eyesight problem.

Thanks for reply! Re Monitors defaults: So there is no way the defaults can be changed? Also it probally is my eyes as i have done a lot of reading lately on line trying to resolve this problem. I will have a few days rest and come back to it and if the problems still there i will contact Monitors support team!

Some monitors (my old Iiyama for one) had a reset to defaults setting in the control panel, otherwise ring Mitsi up or email them (I know their service people are pretty good) and ask them how to reset the monitor cos it`s easily possible to get the settings very upset and out of whack and most guys find that once you`ve been messing for a while it`s near impossible to get back to basics.
The Mitsi "Black" screens were always a different construction to the normal type "mask" (dunno if they still are) but superb picture quality but as with any crt, sitting in front of one for a full shift is not recommended. I think I remember rightly, before the latest regs came out, that not more than an hours continuous use without a ten minute break was recommended. Easy to check current regs, they`re on the Health and Safety site and are also part of the type standard. The radiation thing no longer applies thank God but I shudder to think what we were exposed to over the years especially in the workshops.

Re Shish; not more than an hours continuous use without a ten minute break was recommended!
Oh dear!! No wonder i get Headaches! I sometimes sit morn to Night at my PC...But i do make a 'cuppa' every 2-3 hrs! My missus is always 'Slagging me' for not taking breaks. She is more worried about 'DLT' (Deep leg Thrombosis)! As i am a Noob to PC's (2yrs) i suppose i am making up for lost time!
Bit off subject but has anybody been having trouble Dwnldng updates with Firefox 1.02? Also do i need to update the Java plugin even though i have the Sun Java runtime?
