Need PCI-E Graphics card - mid range.

    Hi
Just bought a DFI NF4 and need to get a new PCI-E card to fit in it. probably got £150 to spend, dont play games much and prefer ATI cards due to their software, but im shoving the whole thing in a Vapochill and overclocking the CPU and memory as fast as i can ( if that has an impact i dont know..)

anyone got any ideas of a fairly okish card that will fit the bill? any nakes better than others?

Well, in the red corner we have the ATi X700, the HIS Excalibur version has one of those funky Artic Coolers preinstalled so you could push that a bit more like the rest of your rig.

On the other hand, we have the nVidia GeForce 6600GT based cards.

Both in PCI-E flavours available for *around* £150. I cant give a personal preference, as I have only used a 6600GT and I own neither.

I did think of the x800 - only as it was within my price range - but a lot of people do have 6600GTs - anyone know which is actually better? althogh I am swayed to the ATI corner.. the excalibur eh? thanks ill go and have a look at that.

x700 is a bit pap compared to the 6600gt. Ati now have tha standard x800 so that may be worth a look.

I hate to say this (ATi fanboy running 9800XT), but the 6600GT performs better. Its in the same league as the X800s in reality. Im probably so harsh on nVidias because the last one I owned was before this 9800XT, which was my GeForce 3 vanilla (pre-titanium cards)

Some appropriate links there with proof
