    X850 pro vs X800XL (stock only)

    I'm wanting to recommend a graphics card for a friend but I'm stuck between choosing these two. They're both sub £200 in Komplett's deals but I'm stuggling to find a direct comparison for performance.

    He'll be running games at 1280x1024 4xAA ..2-8xAF

    Based on this :

    http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews...JsX3BhZ2U9Ng==

    and this

    http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews...JsX3BhZ2U9OQ==

    I reckon the x850 pro just steals it at 1280x1024 (note it's subject to 16xAF compared to the x800xl's 8xAF in those tests).

    I'd love to here some thoughts and opinions on the comparitive performance of these two cards sicne they're in the same price range.

    The X800XL is the faster card. The performance penalty between 16x and 8x AF is negligable.

    actually the X850 pro is marginally faster but it is very close. The x800xl is cheaper so I get that

    look at the speeds at 1024x748 there something up with the results there
    i susspect the machine specs are not the same even though they do say they are the same

    i would look at percentage drop rather than the actual numbers

    i believe the x800xl has 16 pipes and the x8500 only has 12 pipes
    therefore in most test the xl will beat the pro

    The X850 Pro is a faster card if you have the CPU to utilize it. In most systems if both cards are stock there is very little difference. The X800XL has a little higher fill-rate and the X850Pro has more bandwidth and does more triangles, but if you're not overclocking don't waste your money on an X850.

    YORKIE:

    It helps but it doesn't always beat the X800XL.

    the X850pro's clock speed is alot faster than the X800Xls though, which makes for the lack of pipes

    The X800XL has a 400MHz core with 16 pipes 400x16 (6400) is higher than 500x12 (6000), though as storm PC has said the X850 has higher memory bandwidth.

    The cards are really close. If your not overclocking get wichever is cheaper.

    Well, i know its not in stock (about a week) but you can get an OEM x800xt @ scan for £210 which is obviously a great deal.

    Not worth the extra money IMO.

    And clock speed only means something if everything else is equal. X600XT's run at 500MHz while the X800XL runs at 400MHz. Guess which one is more than twice as fast as the other?

    If by faster you mean higher core clocks you are correct. With only 12 pipes vs the XL's 16 there are many programs that will run faster on the XL.

    Clock for clock the XL smokes the XT, but the XT runs at much higher clocks which (as was said before many times) makes up for the lack of pipes in some (not all) areas.

    the XT is 16 pipes...

    x800xt is the same as a x800xl except it is much faster core and memory...

    Title says X850 Pro or X800XL. The X800XT is a much more expensive card.
