How far can a 6800GT go?

I'm having a Leadtek 6800GT and I was wondering how far can it go on core clockspeed and memory clock? I've tried 412Mhz on core and 1100MHz memory clock... the temperature shot through my roof at 67C. Was interested in knowing how far other ppl went on this card or similar variants... was also hoping for any nobel advice to help cool things down!

It will go as far as good as your cooling is to a certain extent. To get big clocks you need to volt mod it, or whatever you do with Nvidia card, think the BIOS controls voltage.

If you wanna cool it down get a Arctic Silencer 5 or somet similar. Or water cool it.

67C isn't anywhere near hot for one of these cards, I have benched my GT at 445 core where it hit about 93C and it still works OK, they have built in safety anyway so I don't think you can break them very easily.

I've got 2 6800gt's, they're both cooled with an EXOS, both have been happy at 432 for the last couple of months, Top Card idles at 49, hits 70 under load.

My 6800GT runs past ultra speeds... all I did was the auto overclock thingy after the coolbits hack. I'm glad I got a GT instead of an Ultra

Tried 430MHz core 1150MHz memory last nite on HL2... idled at 53C with load temperature of 73C. Will tweak back to Ultra clock tonight.. Sniff**

Why tweak back if it works at those speeds? 73°C isn't a lot for modern CPU's.

it makes sense... but just a lil worried it might carry my CPU temp up as well. My XP now sits around 62C during load.... its kinda old... and it's gonna be another few months before I get into 939. Wudn't want to burn it...

Budget of around 100 quid was thinking about going for a 6600GT, is this the best budget card about? Can they be unlocked? Card will be water cooled. Other option is an ATi 9800 pro 128mb or a 9600XT 256mb.

Like I say card will be water cooled in a Shuttle.

I'll always stick with 6600GT, handles next gen engines better than 9800 Pro. Refer to thread "Opinions on Graphic Card Upgrade", it answers most of your questions. I'm not that particularly familiar with 6600's but from ratings given by HEXUS and other users, I'd say its pretty OCble. (Don't worry... 5600U days are over)

9600XT as I remembered gave pretty decent punch in FAR CRY. My housemate has one... lacks the WOW factor tho... A card worthy of praise but is a little OLD..

Hheeh fair play to ya. I for one wouldn't be happy with my card reaching 93C.

no need to woryy about the temps of the cards, the nvidia recommended thresh hold is 120c so anything under that the car will be happy.
