    I cannot see it myself!

Yes if you can afford it....no if you can't. There, that was easy wasn't it ?

If you play at 1024*768 (like me) the 6600gt will suffice! - see my sig

I shall be keeping my 6600gt for the best part of a year before i upgrade!

hmm this has me a little confused now, i was going to get a asus a8n sli mobo with a 6600gt and add another at a later date but now im thinking should i get a cheap nf4 non sli mobo and spend the extra on a better gfx ie 6600gt 256mb or a 6800??

i really just want to play my games at a decent res and framerate but im not talking uber but just nice

so what combination would give best bang for buck and what would your recommendation be?

    total system spend 600 quid

    cheers

    I run mine at native res 1280 x 1024

A 6800GT would be a very nice card for you to get. They're damn fine cards. I know - I've had 3!!

Does it matter if i buy a card that says SLI ready even though i am not going that route or is it better to get one that does not say SLI ready?

The 6800gt is a good card but it's still £200 which is not that cheap considering you can get a 7800gt for £260.

SLI ready just means that you can add another card if you want to, but you dont have to.

So it doesnt matter, any 6600gt will do! All 6600gts should be sli enabled anyway, you just dont have to use it, like me!

Id go for a 6800GT personally... unless your going any higher than 1600x1200 res then its just a waste!

6800gt is way over my price bracket!

Looks like it will either be a 6600 or an x800. 128mb or 256mb?

If you're on a budget then don't get SLI. It's not for people worried about spending cash.

Thing is, i know i have to get a PCI-Express card soon. It's getting the right one for the money i have as i don't tend to upgrade often. I have had my FX5200 for a very long time!!!

I'm trying to buy a new rig, and I trying to get into the whole SLI area. I know its expensive and might not be worth the high costs at all, but I've always liked the thought of being "future proof" if things seem to slow down and I need more graphics.

Another thing, nobody seem to be talking about 7800 cards, is that just because they are too expensive? Or just not worth it unless you want games that run in 1600x1200 with maxed out effects with everything that follows!

    The AGP ones don't

If you're going to buy one at a later date, I don't see much point. You may as well sell your current and buy a single better graphics card.

If you want the absolute best, then get two graphics cards.

I've just got a 6800GT, and I was intending on upgrading to SLi at a later date, then I thought to myself. What's the point in having to last generation Graphics cards when I could sell my 6800GT and buy a brand new next gen one at a lower price?

    What about this card:

XFX GEFORCE 6600 PCI-E 256MB DUAL DVI *Passive Cooling*

Any good? 'Passive cooling' is what i have now on my graphics card.
