Is it worth getting the new NF4 SLI gigabyte or asus boards

Ok I use my PC for mainly background processes and Video editing. I do not do any gaming. The new NF4 chipset looks good for its HDD support etc. but is it worth getting if one does not game? If not which one would one recommend.

At the moment I have a P4 2.4 GHz linked to an ASUS board and am thinking about changing my current setup either new mobo + CPU + graphics card in the case of the NF4, new mobo + CPU with the NF3 or sticking with Pentium rather than replacing all my components going for another Socket 478 board + upgrading cpu to a 3.2 Ghz 1 GB cache. Suggestions which way one would go and for suitable available mobos would be appreciated.

well I was kind of like you expcept I do do a bit of gaming, but most of my work is graphical. I currently run a P4 2.4 with a GB of ram and use AGP so for me I needed an AGP board, I picked up a new mobo, chip and memory on tuesday, a MSI K8N Neo2, with 2Gb of PC3200 Geil ram, the chip I went for is a 3500+ winchester AMD64, ordered today.

In all honesty, you have the world at your feet with single slot board and if you are not a gamer, short of the chipset for your purposes then theres no use in going SLi.

Mine came in at approx £500 for the Chip, memory and motherboard, personally I am looking forward to getting up and running on it as my P4 2.4 is starting to struggle.

Did anything make you chose the MSI over say the Asus and Gigabyte boards? I also do not thin sli is probably worth it but the NF4 chip does seem to bring a whole host of other connectability expansibilty with it. The Ram though I wish to use is PC3200 OCZ non ecc ram, does this work with the msi board?

    Any thoughts on the GA-K8NXP-9

No, if you don't do 3D gaming SLI is stupid. Of course you won't impress too many people with your superior intellect buying a 3.2GHz P4 either. AMD still offers the best value in computers. It's the Winchester 3200+ if you are overclocking. Since AMD released the less expensive AMD64 chips it's pretty hard to justify any 32 bit ONLY machine.

If you'd ever used an A64 on Windows XP 64 bit (the Asus A8N-SLI machine I'm typing this on is running it, as a couple other of my machines have been for 3 months) you'd realize that the A64 is a no-brainer. I suggest the MSI K8N Neo-2.

It will only work with non-ecc ram.

ECC RAM is used for the 940 socket, i.e. Opteron.
    Main Rig: LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D | AMD Opteron 165@2.65Ghz | 2GB TwinMoss DDR PC3200 | GeForce 8800GT 512MB | 2*500GB Seagate 7200.10 | Antec P182 case
    Shuttle Rig: Shuttle SN41G2B | Sempron 2200+ | 1GB NANYA DDR PC3200 | ATi Radeon 9600 128MB | 2*320GB Seagate 7200.8
    HTPC: Abit Abit AN-M2HD | Athlon X2 BE-2400 | 2GB Corsair DDR2 PC2-5300 | 500GB Seagate 7200.11 | Terratec Cinergy 2400i DT | Antec Fusion Black HTPC Case
