    x800gto2 or 7800gt

My little bro is unsure of whether to buy a 7800gt or a x800gto2. He did have a 6600 which wasnt really that great so looking for something with a bit more beef. I automatically said the 7800gt, but then i thought about overclocking that x800gto2. Firstly how easy is it to make it as fast as the x850xt and also how much better is ther 7800gt over the x850xt, and is it worth the money?

    thanks lads

7800gt Kicks the real x850's ass anyway so the 7800gt is the way to go

...depending on what CPU it will be paired with - the CPU could be a bottleneck to a 7800GT, or even a X850XT.

3200 venice @ stock? Running them above 2.4Ghz-ish shouldnt be a serious bottleneck anymore..

7800GT would be more future proof.. + more support for games esp HDR! cant live without it...

The X800GTO2 is a really good card that is best suited for those on a budget and those who have the nerve to unlock it (and who have a free PCIe slot) whereas the 7800GT is more fitting for those who have deeper pockets (and a free PCIe slot).

I went for the Sapphire X800GTO2 because it was cheap, a good performer and I have more then one PC to upgrade.

Actually, why don’t you take the 7800GT and give him your X850XT PE?

    LOL

Well i just downgraded from a 7800gtx to a x800gto2 and i have no regrets. I have yet to play fear though... :|

But running cs source it plays it on high and unlockin it was v.easy even for someone who's never done it before!

Save your money and get a budget x850xtpe!

Well, I can honestly say that I have bought a number of high-end cards as soon as they came out. I did this for awhile but it didn’t really give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Rather, it gave me a lighter wallet and some extra fps that I often couldn’t see in games with the naked eye.

It’s all up to the individual and their billfold. If you have the coin and want to spend it have at it but the next time we are at the pub,….drinks are on you.

just to update you guys, he went for the 7800GT. Mainly because he doesnt have the foggiest about overclocking, and i only know the basics. Plus it was a bit of a bargain. Thanks for your advice guys,
