    7800gs vs 6800 ultra

    From a quick browse it seems as if the 7800GS is marginally faster than the 6800U, and pulls away at higher res +/- IQ. X850XT still seems ahead of them both though...

    That's the thing that surprised me. I am looking for a new AGP card, so I have to decide if I want HDR/SM3 etc rather than just raw speed...

    I would go for image quality over raw speed, so long as you get 30-40 fps plus you'll be better off with the card that provides the best image quality

    Depends how long you wanna keep it for dude... if less than 1 year, I'd get the X850. Anything less than 60fps will be horrible, especially if you have a TFT (I get a really annoying shimmer on HL2 with VSync off).
