Yep. Apart from everything else, new cards tend to support new features. As you've rightly pointed out that would include native DX10 support (and therefore Aero Vista interface) but also cards that incorporate HDCP, newer Shader Models, etc., etc. The only way that SLI would make sense for the masses, if they gave you a substantial discount on the second card. Personally I don't see this happening (how can the manufacturer ensure that the discounted card is actually going to be used in a SLI system and not just sold on eBay). No, in this way having 2 GPU in your system was akin to having 2 CPU in your system. However just like the CPUs (with the advent of dual-cores), I can see single cards with dual-GPUs on them (Asus did a limited run with the 7800GT GPU).
