Still contemplating this...anyone have any further thoughts on the whole Vista D3D10 issue??? Or do you think that i will still be able to get a decent amount of life out the XT1800XT...

...Really want it, but i have the sneaking suspicion that as soon as I do, i am going to be stuck with some expensive hardware that is going to be a little bit useless. Or maybe i just dont like the thought of spending £300 on gaming hardware!!!

    300?? Try 230 inc. :
    http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/100523

    and prob. cheaper elsewhere.

If you wait for DX 10 you'll be waiting more than a year anyway. Just buy it.

Personally I prefer ATI but nVidia have done a great job on 7900 series cards. Regarding to 7900GT's low costs and overclocking potentials, it is more than worthy to go for a SLI setup. X1900XT/XTX crossfire? Naah, just too expensive and not good enough especially when you take driver issues into account. Don't trust it's 48 pixel things, 7900GT/GTX have the same but named differently.

Oops, sorry, you were talking about X1800XT, not X1900
Honestly, it's a good value for a stand alone card but not good for crossfire. It's all about the unreliable drivers of ATI crossfire. It doen't fire actually.

Well, the X1800XT is a nice card. Not much between it and the 7900.

@Rack - £300 or there abouts is because i have to shell out money for a decent PSU, as i just have a naff generice one powering my 6600GT at the moment. The dangers uprading... I'll need this then...and this PSU...And this Fan...And some Arctic Silver

But I was leaning towards the X1800XT 512 as i have just about enough resolution to benefit from it i think (1440x900). Also, a 580W Hiper should be ok for it right? I'm no expert on rails etc but they seem like a respectable brand, though i just cant afford seasonic ones, should still hold me in good stead.

No offence, you need to read more mate...

SLI drivers have a longer tradition than Crossfire, but the ATI drivers have also matured well...

48pixel shaders are awsome, not being a fanboy or anything.. Just check out its efficiency when handling pixel labile games. And the ring controller is just a more elegant way of handling data..

Have a read around before making your own judgement, cause the stuff you just said really didnt make much sense.. , hope its not too devastating..

Thread closed, since it appears some of the users of our forums can't put a technical point across without having to feel intellectually superior over someone in the process. I'll be watching those users closely in the future.
