Considering getting a 8800 GTS Card soon and...

I just wondered what you people think regards the different brands that are available. I currently have an XFX 6800 GS and I really like the XFX brand which can make me lean towards this brand in the future which might mean im paying more and missing out on maybe something better.

So I was basically thinking whats your fav Graphics Card Brand/Manufacturer?

Also I have a 460W PSU and my first thoughts are im gonna have to get a more powerful PSU and again just wanted to see different people opinions on this....

Either one i'll be buying a Vista OEM licence with.

The only difference between brands is how they applied the thermal compound, what stickers they put on it, bundle, and warranty.

Generally none of them apply thermal compound correctly, so I dismantle all of my cards before I even use them, and fix the things. This makes brand utterly irrelivant, as I've never had a card die unless it was using the stock application of compound. Therefore, I get the cheapest brand of the card I am looking for.

I generally go for the cheapest too, unless it's a brand i haven't heard of. Most of them are decent.

Prob early days to get an general overview but do you think a 460W PSU will be ok with the 8800 series also you got anything on when the mid-range cards are out or even the 8900 series?

Im not gonna spend until end of Jan early Feb depending on Vista OEM licence release.

I'm thinking feb-march for the mid-range DX10 cards, and april-may for the 8900s, but I don't think anything has been announced.

As for the PSU, it depends on the brand and the +12v rail. I have a 380 watt that would power an 8800GTS just fine, and a 500w that would probably fry if I tried.

Agreed - if you let us know make and model, we may be able to say yay or nay :_
