    Worth considering?

I've got an OC'd 9800Pro at the mo, soft modded to XT, but came across this:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=402366

    Is this a worthwhile upgrade?

Will it give a noticable benefit?

wouldn't bother myself....XT is pretty low level in the Geforce range.

It's tricky deciding when to upgrade your graphics card. I think you will notice a big improvement with the 6800XT but then this is a fairly old chipset. If it were me I'd be tempted to wait until I upgrade the motherboard and then go for a decent PCI-E card. If you're stuck with AGP and have no other plans to upgrade then either teh 6800XT or perhaps this (over budget?) would be a good move.

    Good luck anyway!

Probably not worth it as an upgrade. Performance gains won't be enough to justify the money.

The 9800XT that I had could play most games very well, when coupled with a decent CPU and RAM.

A number of 6800XT and 6800LE cards are unlockable as they are basically 6800/6800gt/6800 ultra cards clocked lower and have the additional pipelines and shaders disabled. Although this is not guaranteed you should be able to unlock them.I should know since I have had two and one unlocked to 12 pipelines and 5 pixel shaders and the other to 16 pipelines and 6 pixel shaders!! Normal 6800XT and 6800LE cards have 8 pixel pipelines and 4 vertex shaders.

This version also has 1000mhz DDR3 unlike normal 6800XT and 6800LE cards which have much slower DDR1 usually clocked at 700mhz.The GPU is also clocked at 350mhz unlike normal 6800XT and 6800LE cards which run at 300mhz.

However one word of warning with 6800 cards though, some of them are known to have faulty capacitors which can cause them to fail prematurely.

The 7600GS AGP may also be a good altenative to a 6800XT or 6800LE.However if you can fully unlock it the 6800 will be better, especially the XFX you have seen.

    I hope this helps!!

Yea do what most do consider the sensible option and then just think are forget it go PCI-E, Dual Core, 8800GTS ftw.

On a more sensible note its probably worth getting a PCI-e Mobo now and getting a PCI-e card rather then going for another AGP.

The 6800XT is a severely cut down version of the 6800 series, any of the old X8xx series cards will spank it in benchmarks and image quality.

Right, thanks for the input guys, I was thinking that nVidea used XT like ATI do (did?) and mark the top one with that...
