    Unhappy Help!!! 8800GTS or 7950GX2

    Hello ppl,
im hoping some of u can help me out wid a small problem that i have........
I'm buying a new system, I have decided all the components except the GPU..... Its gonna b :

    Intel E6700 processor
    Asus P5N32-E SLI mobo
    1gb of DDR2 RAM @ 800Mhz
Antec P180 enclosure powered by a corsair 520w PSU
    GPU - 8800GTS or 7950GX2

Advice frm anyone is appreciated cause im a noob when it comes 2 hardware.

P.S: I will not b loading win vista on my system any time soon, so 8800's DX10 capability is pointless I assume. I will continue using XP.

I dont get 2 buy a comp very often, pls help me make da right choice.

8800gts for sure. The gx2 is a beastly/best dx9, card while 8800 is the next generation dx10 card. The 8800 gts also out performs the gx2, I think.

tks for the quick reply.......but, I did mention that im not gonna b using vista. So whichever card I buy, it will run on XP 64bit, that means no DX10. Under this condition which would b better??

the 8800 will hold more of its value when you want to upgrade... and you will be using vista eventually in the future so 8800gts all the way...

I am under the impression that in most software bar synthetic benchmarks, the 7950GX2 is actually slower than single GPU cards like 7950GT or even the £120 X1950 Pro.

8800GTS is the way to go. Keep an eye on Ebuyer who have the ASUS card for £240 when in stock or Scan for the XFX or Palit for the same money when they are today only special offers (which come up at least once a week with the 8800GTS).

Please note, I have the Palit from Scan and am really happy with it. But I would keep away from Vista at the moment as it knocks game performance by 10-20% (see an article in Firingsquad.com).

Glad to hear that the palit is working out...im tempted..but..

...has anyone ever had to deal with their customer service? and what is the warranty like on this?

The bfg seems worth the extra for the lifetime warranty.

I have Palit quality excellent warranty 2 years, I have never kept a card this long.

    Oh sorry

GTS definately can't really elaberate as most of the points have been mentioned. GX2 would not be as good in relation to getting you moneys worth
