Front sound port

Hiya.

I've got onboard sound, the Realtek HD codec, I've plugged it in alright on my motherboard, but the front I/O ports just don't work. Maybe I've fried them by hotswapping whilst there's been power going through?

To start, they never worked amazingly, they didn't switch off the sound from the back port (as they were supposed to), and had distorted / 'noisy' sound if you get what I mean? But then again, I may have imagined this bit.

After a while, they didn't work at all. Have an Asus P5W DH, and an Antec P180 case. Would be lovely to get them to work. Probably overlooked a cable, I simply plugged the cable from the front panel to the audio stuff on the motherboard, but theres about 10 cables dangling out the back of the 'block' of cables, I assumed they were just redundant cables for non-standard pin layouts on the motherboard.

The reason I'm a bit suspicious, is I had trouble with my last two cases and the front audio too. MSI KM4M-L with Antec Sonata, then an ebuyer kind of of aspire q-pack. (It works on that one, just, you have to fiddle the jack a bit)

Aint being funny mate, but have you read the manual? Its the only thing i could think of.

Yea, but it's quite foolproof... the antec case comes with a 'block' connector which fits perfectly on my asus motherboard.

It doesn't make any sense to me either... uness the front bit is broken. But sod the idea of stripping out a P180 just for that!

Make sure the BIOS setting is set to AC97 and not HDAudio.

I have the same board and case and it works fine in both Vista and OSX.
