When I was still running my 6600GT AGP February this year I was using one of the 90 series with no problems. Not 100% sure which one though, 96.98 I believe (it is also whql certified).

You can grab it from Guru3D in their download section.

No never had any problems at all with my 6600GT, I had the XFX factory overclocked one also.

I would check your fan is spinning properly, give it a clean and get all the dust and gunk off the blades. You could also try replacing the thermal paste on the GPU under the fan. Usually artifacts come from overclocking or a heat issue and occasionally faulty memory. If it is a new card (or still under warranty) try it in another machine to see if it does the same. If it does then RMA it with your supplier. If it is over a year old some manufacturers have an extended warranty for an additional year.
