Line in to surround sound...?

Hey,

I am just wandering, if i plug something into my line in, is there a way for me to get it to play in surround sound 5.1. At the moment it only plays in to of my speakers? Is it cus my soundcard is dead or is this what normally happens?

I would have thought the whole point of the soundcard was to convert stereo in 5.1?

The only way to get 5.1 surround sound is via a coax or optical input, line-in only supports 2 channels as it is an analog connection not digital.

hi,

I found that My cd player had a digi out. i connected this to the s/pdif in on the back of my soundcard and still i only get sound on 2 speakers?

any ideas?

What speakers have you got, and what soundcard?

The speakers are creative inspire 5.1.

the soundcard is the onboard one on a dfi lanparty sok 939 ut.
