    Bamboozled

Well Im struggling with an non booting PC belonging to my mate.
When you switch it on the fan spins up but nothing else happens no display nothing.
    The system is as follows

    GigaByte GA-M61VME-S2 AM2
    1G Micron DDR2 800 PC6400 CL5
    A64 X2 3800 AM2
    Antec Basiq 500w

We originally thought it was the motherboard so we sent it back to scan for RMA. That came back with no fault found. We then replaced the PSU still nothing. I tried in the gfx card and ram from my pc still no difference. I took the motherboard out an disconnected all the hdds just to see if i could get a display up. I then bought a cheap cpu to try as it seemed better to spend £16.50 on a cpu than £23.50 on a no fault found fee. I have left the cmos battery out for hours in between times but it still does not boot.
Im at a complete loss as it seems like it can only be the motherboard but scan have checked it.
Can anyone suggest anything else to try?
    Thanks Scott

If you have a spare stick of compatible memory id deff give that a go.

Otherwise you can do a series of post checks. You can test the system with one component at a time and listen to the tones provided by the motherboard. It is this point i need someone else to jump in as i have only done this test once and cant remember how i found out whether the beebs were good or bad. (i may have been on the phone to scan at the time actually). Anyway this should identify the problem.

Incidentaly, however the probem turned out to be RAM.

do you get any BIOS beeps at all? make sure your speaker is plugged in, so you can hear anything.
Is the monitor plugged into graphics card Port 1? thats in line with the I/O port.
On my old X850XTPE, it wouldn't display anything on the secondary port unless there was also something in the primary. Strange

Motherboard is sitting on a cardboard box only hooked up to the psu and screen. I have reseated everything several times with all the swapping. I have tried it with the onboard GFX and my X1900XT
