    continuous and loud beeping!!!

    hey

my computer crashed the other day and on reboot makes a continuous and regular beeping noise which despite turning off my speakers and putting the coputer on mute still continues. My keyboard has also stopped working and is definatly connected properly.

any help/suggestions would be very helpful

    ps i have windows 2000

    thanks

Could it be the graphics card going mad cause its power connector isn't connected? My old 6800le used to make a loud whine when not powered.

A continuous repetetive beep is usually a sign that the motherboard is overheating or thinks it's overheating. As stated, power up, go into the bois & view the pc's health status, let's see what the temperature readings are. Also tell us what motherboard, cpu, ram & graphics card do you have?

If you have a manual for the motherboard it may well have a guide to bios beep codes in that.

However, if it's doing it after a crash I'd say the finger of blame is pointing to the motherboard possibly being faulty if the temps are showing as normal. If you're still running Win2k I'm guessing the mobo may well be knocking on a bit.

That takes away the element of surprise.
