Problem with AHCI on Abit IP-35 Pro

    Hi all,
I posted this on another thread I have going in the abit care forum, but it not part of the original post, hence I'm posting again here, to see if anyone has ideas.

I have an Abit IP-35 Pro motherboard. I also have a Samsung HD501LJ SATA hard disk. This hard disk supports NCQ (Native Command Queueing).

Originally I had the SATA controller set to IDE mode, everything worked fine, and I installed Windows without problem.

I decided to see what AHCI does, and having discovered the HDD supports it I set the SATA controller mode to AHCI, and rebooted. Now, the BIOS reports there no hard disk can be found.

    Anyone got any ideas?

If you enable AHCI after the OS is installed it'll fubar the lot. It needs drivers at the lowest level. You may be able to get in again if you switch it off again and try safe mode. Try installing the drivers manually in the Device manager then try booting again with it on. Its not an easy fix, lots easier to put them in at the install.

My Samsung is only recognised on the JMircon controller on my board - the Intel controller is set to RAID, so obviously I can't use the IDE mode.

tbh AHCI brings no real benefits for a normal dektop & NCQ may actually decrease performance.
