Question Hiper Type R 580W enough for 8800GTX?

I have a Hiper Type R 580 Watt power supply. Will it be enough to power a 8800GTX?

Output Voltages and Currents of my psu

Output Voltage: Load Range Min / Max (Ripple)
    +5V: 2.0A / 36A ± 5% (100mV)
    +12V1: 0.2A / 20A ± 5% (120mV)
    +12V2: 0.0A / 18A ± 5% (120mV)
    -12V: 0.0A / 0.8A ± 10% (200mV)
    +5VSB: 0.0A / 2.5A ± 5% (70mV)
    +3.3V: 0.4A / 30A ± 5% (70mV)

I don't have a clue what those numbers mean

If it is working ok, then its enough, but I personally wouldnt trust 300 quids worth of graphics cards with a Hiper PSU, as they have a nasty habit of going pop.

I don't have one yet, I have a 7800gt at the moment. What do you mean they go pop? as in they just break? I've had mine for just under 2 years now.

A lot of the Hipers fail, I also wouldn't trust a £300 card with a Hiper (which is why I have a Corsair 620 )

Most of the decent brands have some kind of surge protection built in that protects your components from damage if the PSU fails, but the Hiper's seem to regularly take expensive parts with them when they go.

It can happen with any make, but have a search on these forums and on google and you'll see.

Re: Hiper Type R 580W enough for 8800GTX?

I did a search, it was interesting, yea I came across people that had problems with them but I also came across a power supply failure rate article (I can't post link, not enough posts, it's on behardware.com)

    Fortron: 0.7%
    Hiper: 1.2%
    Seasonic: 1.4%
    Thermaltake: 1.6%
    Tagan: 2.8%
    Enermax: 3.0%
    Antec: 9.5%

I just don't have enough money for a new power supply

Ahh I hate life's big decisions

You don't have enough money for a decent supply yet you're going to buy a 8800GTX? I think you need to get your priorities sorted mate.

A quick sweep of any regular forum will tell you all you need to know - that chart means jack.

lol, i knew somebody would say that, i was originally going to go for the 8800GTS 640MB but i looked on ebay and i could get a 8800GTX for the same price from america. I could still get a 8800GTS from scan but i thought i'd ask to see if my power supply could handle the GTX.

I really don't want to take a risk, maybe i should just save up a bit and get a better psu. Thanks for the help anyway.

Re: Hiper Type R 580W enough for 8800GTX?

If you are getting a new graphics card then you need a decent PSU like Corsair/Seansonic/Enermax.

If your "My System" is right then you should be all right with a 8800gts 320MB card and still have enough for a PSU

Re: Hiper Type R 580W enough for 8800GTX?

my rigs been running fine for over a year, and the 8800gtx went in a few months ago with no issues. voltages are the same at idle or 100% cpu load and the gtx in 1920x1200 so its being used !

no gripes with hyper from me.

Re: Hiper Type R 580W enough for 8800GTX?

Yes at 1280x1024 the real differnce between a 8800gts 320mb /640mb / gtx is going to be almost nothing.
    get a 8800gts 320mb and a better PSU.
Although that hiper should be able to handel a gts

EDIT: Well after GoNzO's post . . . to quote clunk
Its your money, and your gamble.
