MX1000 Problem with laser

Hi i'm hoping you can help me, i bought this mouse around a year and a half ago and after around six months it stopped working. I place it on charge and it would cycle through and look as though it was fully charged but coming to use it i found that the laser had stopped working and that the mouse was useless. Is this true or am i missing something. I've tried the reset button but to no avail, please help.
