Again, I was previously one of the Symantec Haters, but the latest version is a vast improvement.

    Re: Get rid of norton?

Great response guys and generally it seems getting rid is the opinion....but
aside from a recent problem with pop ups involving Adsite and two or three nasty infections over the last ten years of using norton it seems to work well enough.
At least i thought so. Shouldn't i expect the odd vius or problem to occur anway no matter what AV i use?
I do suffer a very slow start up but other than that i don't notice any problem once all up and running.
As for the 2008 Norton what is better about it; new features, better performance, both or what?

I don't use Norton, but my daughter has it on her laptop (2008). It does seem very slow on start up. We will have to wait and see before i uninstall it.

    Re: Get rid of norton?

There are simply more effective, less intrusive (in every way), better thought out, alternatives out there, especially if you're paying. I would use free AntiVir anti virus over Norton anti virus every single time (and do).

The fact that you mentioned slow start up time is exactly what's wrong with it and should be enough of a reason for anyone to either uninstall it right there, or at least not to renew or re-buy a new version. Why would you put up with that when virtually none of the competition inflict that on you?

Symantec would have to roll out two radically different, decent releases before I would even look at them, let alone consider installling their anti virus on a box.

I renewed my NOD32 licenses the other day via a US reseller - NOD32, ESET NOD32, NOD32 Antivirus, NOD32 USA, Anti-Threat Solution, Home & Enterprise Solutions . £60 for 4 users for 2 years, would have been £94 from the UK reseller (eset.co.uk isn't actually eset themselves).
