    Graphics Card Problems

    Very weird indeed.

I have an X1900GT with HDCP I bought it new and when I was able to try it out before it worked fine!

Now having rebuilt the computer, a strange series of events emerge.

Card will not be recognised and just power on with full fan speed forcing windows to use onboard graphics. Whilst in Windows "New Hardware Found" wizard appears but cannot do anything.
(In Device Manager it is listed as unknown VGA controller)

Another time I may try it, it boots fine, fan does self test then goes right down. Boot into windows and and I can install drivers and reboot pc.

Upon reboot one of the following happens...
Either graphics card fan goes at full speed and is not recognised.
OR it boots into windows fine but Catalyst Control Centre has loads of problems and says it cannot find the graphics card, although device manager still lists it as x1900gt and I am getting display through the graphics card.

It is all very weird. i have tried it with the onboard disabled, but I get nothing so have to clear CMOS.

I have tried two different PCI-e power connectors (official and molex converter) problems happen with both. So I'm stuck as to see what to do.

The card has no visible scortching / marks or scratched so I'm a bit puzzled. And its obviously not completely dead...

Finally luckily I have a spare pci-express graphics card, x1650pro and this works perfectly, except that it doesnt have hdcp

    Re: Graphics Card Problems

I'm using my x1650 pro fine with no problems.

Its an Abit I-N73HD motherboard, and I'm using XP with updated bios etc. CPU is a e4500.

I've just built the thing so still have my sig to update...

    Re: Graphics Card Problems

try clearing your card of dust and make sure its conected properly but it does seem like its blown mate if its not starting with internal onboard gpu switched off this happened to my ATI 9800pro a couple of years back. You cannot install the card and get it working with onboard on pure and simple make sure you have all connectors including pci-e connector if needed.

    Re: Graphics Card Problems

Try re-installing all of the drivers and if your GPU came with a CD with the drivers check if the CD has any programs on it which will allow you to modify/over-clock your GPU specs and then try to lower the fan speed and check the temperature of the GPU. If this doesn't help i would suggest trying the graphics card on another system (like your friends or something) and if it still doesn't work then you most likely have a damaged GPU.

    Good luck
    Valvo.
