The Ez-Flash tool does a decent job at detecting optical drives. I've found the easiest way is to burn the new ROM file onto a CD (re-writables work well) and it should pick it up fine.

EDIT: As previous posters have mentioend, NEVER EVER use the Asus Windows updater. Many stories of it going wrong on the Asus forums alone. It nuked my Striker Extreme BIOS and I had to hot-flash to recover, something I never really want to attempt again.

    Re: Q9450 - too cold?!?!

So in essence we're saying just re-flash the motherboard and all should be ok?

On another note, the ASUS website only lists one version of the BIOS (1st release) as the rampage formula is a new (X48) board...so we think using the same version will fix things?

Also, using realtemp, it indicates that the real temp is in the 30's although it says that one of the temperature reading thingies is 'stuck' with no variation...what does this mean in english?

    Cheers

No point in re-flashing the BIOS with the same firmware. The second post on the thread did say update the BIOS. but as there is no update available - you can't.

However (unless you are planning to overclock) it is really of little significance - you are getting the temperatures from a utility once it has booted anyway, presumably the machine isn't displaying any symptoms that suggest overheating - so live with it!

If the CPU does overheat, it will almost certainly shut itself down, and at some point ASUS will probably release an updated BIOS that may (or may not) fix it.

    Re: Q9450 - too cold?!?!

There's a 0308 Beta BIOS floating around for this board (current is 0219) but the links on the forum take me to the same 0219 BIOS so not sure what's up with that. Either way, from the reports on the Asus forum the Beta BIOS doesn't really change anything and might introduce a Suspend bug.
