Hi All,
I have recently been backing up all of my DVDs onto DVD discs. Initially I did this on my external LG DVD writer under Windows XP. After I have burnt a disc I normally test them in my DVD player connected to my TV to check that they are working and thus far they have all been fine. However, I have recently built a new PC running Windows Vista including a NEC Optiarc Lightscribe 20xDVD+/-RW/RAM. I performed exactly the same process on my new PC, using DVD Shrink, as I did on my old PC to rip and burn the discs and it worked fine (and in about a tenth of the time!) but this was also the downfall. As the PC was so quick I moved on to test the disc on my new PC as oppose to putting them in a stand alone DVd player connected my to TV. They all played fine on PC, until I randmly went back to testing on TV DVD Player and found that when I put the disc in, instead of going to the title menu, it would randomly skip to a point in the film. I tried this with three discs (all burnt using my new PC) and they all skipped to some random point on the disc rather than going to the title menu. When at this point, I couldn't skip through the chapters either. On two of the three disc this point was almost at the credits and on the other disc it was in the middle somewhere. I have since tested them on my PC and they do indeed worked fine on it! I should also mention I have two DVD Players hooked up to my DVD (as one isn't that great) and the three discs skipped to the same point on each DVD player.
I am now at a lost as to what is causing the problem. My initial thoughts were that it is either the new DVD drive, Windows Vista, or a combination of both but I am unsure. I did some reading online and found some info on the UDF number of a disc and thought perhaps this was causing the problem. I have checked a few discs burnt on both my new and old PC and all have a UDF number of 1.02 which should be playable in all DVD players (from what I understood). There must be a setting somewhere that I have overlooked!
So now I am wondering if anyone has got any ideas....!
Thanks for reading.
