    Audio Driver problem

    Hi Guys,

Can anyone help me with Legacy Audio Drivers?

My PC has just been re-built by a friend but the Sounds and Audio Devices are all greyed out. He says the drivers need updating but I don't have the discs and have no idea what I'm looking for or need to download.

Anyone able to help? I guess you need more info but not sure what - let me know and I'll tell you what I can.

    Cheers...

    Re: Audio Driver problem

Run one of the system analysers - SIW, Belarc - and it should tell you what the drivers should be.
I did this once on a 6yo Dell, re-installed XP, used a fairly big monitor so had trouble with the display, then had to find a utility that would tell me the drivers /and/ allow access to the buttons at 800x600!
Moral is: find and download the drivers before doing anything drastic.

    Re: Audio Driver problem

google the sound card/mobo if its onboard. and just search for something such as product name/code Drivers. or post the make and model here and i'll go retrieve them.

something like SIW or CPUZ will tell you the mobo model number if your using onboard
or SIW or everest will tell you the soundcard model number if your using a soundcard

    Lightbulb Re: Audio Driver problem

If it's a dedicated soundcard, you'll need to find out the make/model, then visit the manufacturer's website to get the drivers for it.

If it's on-board audio, it'll almost certainly use Realtek drivers.
The most common chips use the AC97 codecs. Newer boards might use the HD Audio codecs?

Control panel>system>hardware>device manager>sound video game controllers

have a look there to see if the drivers are installed or if anything appears in yellow. Should be able to locate or update drivers from there by clicking on the device and then the driver tab and follow instructions.

If everything looks okay in Control panel then go here
