Which laptop to buy ? help needed

    Hi all,
Am thinking of buying a laptop budget is £500 - £600, i am after one that includes word for work and i would also like one that can play games well, i mainly play strategy games and im not sure if that alters the graphics card i need.

Any recommendations would be well appreciated

    Thanks
    Billy

The higher end dell vostro 1510 or 1500 if you can still pick one up.

The Dell XPS M1530 is a good one too but it will be the lower end with that budget.

What sort of size do you want it?

the new dell studio line will be coming out shortly, that might be worth waiting for if you aren't desperate.

Hi mike no im not desperate i was hoping for a 17" screen if possible, i could stretch the budget a little bit if i had to. Would you always go for a dell then ?

Re: Which laptop to buy ? help needed

Yeah I pretty much stick to dell where possible. They havn't let me down much in the past and the warranty service on them has always been impecable.

Bang for bucks they also come up trumps at the moment especially when you require dedicated graphics

Same applies from before really, The vostro 1710 and 1700 are both good choices at that size. The Inspiron version is much the same as the vostro 1700 just a different colour.

There will be a 17" version of the studio also

Re: Which laptop to buy ? help needed

Well about 2 months ago I bought a Dell Inspiron 1720 from a guy on eBay and had fantastic service.

    T7500 with 3Gb Ram
    1440x900 with True Life
    2 x 200Gb 7200rpm drives
    8600GT 256mb
    Vista Home Premium

Machine was a Dell Outlet machine but arrived all sealed up and as new. All disks sealed etc.

Machine price on the Dell site at the time was £1150. I paid £650.

Purchased on Friday from guy on ebay. Called him Saturday morning and paid over the phone using my Mastercard.

Let me know if you want his ebay addy.

Careful! If something seems to good to be true (and a £500 saving on a Dell price definately is!), it's probably not genuine. It's probably either a) a scammer or b) someone who got "lucky" and merely purchased stolen goods

Have a look at the Vostro 1710 (under Small Business, don't worry they rarely check!!), they've got an 8600M graphics card which by no means top end performance, is still pretty useable.

Lucio. This guy has sold more than 10000 laptops on ebay and has excellent feedback. Over 19000 when I purchased my laptop.
