    Coaxial to Optical Adaptors

i have just bought the bril Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-ray player. i also happen to have a 5.1 DTS/Dolby Surround Sound System. but i just realised the player only have optical out. my questions:

    1. is Optical better than Coaxial?

    2. would you recommend a "Coaxial to Optical adaptor" so i can connect my player to my coaxial out of my surround sound system? (coz the "other" optical out is connected to my TV) are they practical to use? or do they work?

    any advice pleeaaseee....?????

They're both digital so one is no better than the other and there are no problems if you're using a converter.

i'd like to know how do you set it up on your part?

note: my Sony LCD W3000 has the usual RCA ports, 3 HDMI ports and 1 optical. my decoder has 1 Optical and 1 Coaxial and the 1500 only has 1 Optical out. how would you recommend me setting it up?

my main aim is for the sound of my blu-ray player to come out of my decoder's speakers AND my TV as well. do i need the optical-to-coaxial adaptor?

    thanks.

    Re: Coaxial to Optical Adaptors

Can I ask why you would want your sound to come through BOTH the TV and your amplifier?

As a general rule, you should only have the sound coming out of one or it generally sounds quite weird.

If your blu-ray player has HDMI out, then just connect the HDMI cable to your TV and that should take care of sound and audio (both done digitally)

Then, use the optical out to connect to the optical in on your receiver.
