You dont even have to install another OS, that's my point - you can just run a LiveCD - it will even bypass all of your hard disks, so RAID or whatever won't make an ounce of difference. You can pull them out for all it cares! So no, you don't partition them first. Just burn a LiveCD (from a downloaded ISO), stick it in your PC, make sure the BIOS is set to read from CD first (rather than hard drive being first boot drive), and DONT INSTALL but just run it.
I'm commenting on an internet forum. Your facts hold no sway over me.

Sorry was having a bit of a blond moment.

I've ran a network cable and everything seems to be working fine (in fact better than fine, everything is working at super speed, as for what I assumed to be a broken network card was down to outdated drivers which have since been updated).

I'm going to test to see if I get the same problem again with a wireless card. But am not overly bothered as I can live with using an ethernet cable.

    Thanks for your help guys

    ** EDIT **

Nope still can't get either of my two wireless network cards to function correctly, but I'm not too bothered about finding a fix for this as my computer will have to run off ethernet cables at my student house in leeds.

    Re: Internet connection problem

Dopes moving the affected machine closer to the wireless router improve things?

If you look at the TCP/IP config settings, are you using the gateway (your router) as a DNS relay, or do you have the DNS server settings set to Tiscali's DNS server?

If they are set to use the default gateway, try resetting them to pint directly to either Tiscali's DNS server, or you could try the open DNS servers.
