    very slow install

    Hi
Trying to install a clean copy of vista on to sons pc but it is taking forever i gave up after 2 hours and it was still copying install files.
Tried the disk in a laptop and it flew into the install menu after a couple of minutes also tried memtest, swapping the psu,dvd drive and a different hard drive but the same result any idea why so slow?
    Thanks

    Re: very slow install

It might be worth checking how the motherboard disk controller is configured in the system BIOS.

The previous XP setup might have been installed with special drivers.

Although Vista includes a huge range of disk controller drivers, it might be worth changing the disk controller back to "compatible" if it was set to AHCI or RAID...
