Question Using both sata as master and ide for slave

The motherboard support's both, and will boot from one or the other but not able to boot if both are hooked up. What I'd like is to boot from the sata and have the ide as slave, I've looked at the manual
and it doesn't realy say if it can be done.
Both drive's have an OS on them and just can't get it right.
I'm not able at this time to buy anything.
Here below is some info on the board.
Anything else you need to know just ask.

    Thank's in advance

Re: Using both sata as master and ide for slave

Hmmm, the DFI VIA offering - if memory serves me (which it often fails to do!) I had a similar issue with a friends system going back a couple of years after I bought him a new hard drive (SATA). In the end I gave up and just blanked his IDE using it as boot.

Working entirely from my vague memory, in the bios you don't even have SATA in the boot order - however there may be "SCSI" - if so, select that and see if you have any joy. Other than that I'd be at a loss, but there's nothing else really to try that i can think of. Trouble is with that setup was it was during SATA's real infancy and some motherboard manufacturers didn't think we'd be actually using them to boot from - the less said about some of the SATA infected Dell Optiplexes I had to deal with, the better!

there is no master or slave for SATA

IDE/PATA and SATA can work together fine, you can boot from either, you just set this in your BIOS

Thumbs up Re: Using both sata as master and ide for slave

I checked the bios and it was set as LS120 so I changed it to SCSI and connected the up the IDE drive and when I booted it hung on the splash screen for about 30 second's then booted from the IDE drive so I then removed the jumper that was set as slave and it booted from the SATA and now can access the IDE from my computer.
I bought this computer used about 6 month's ago after my old one died and is my first SATA, both SATA and IDE drive's are seagate baracuda's 7200 rpm and the bios was set at LS120 when I got it and not knowing how it should be set I just left it alone and running 2 IDE drive's was a peace of cake but this SATA had me lost.
So a very BIG THANK'S for the both of you for the help and have a very happy new year.
Next time I know where to come for help.
1 last question, where do I go to add a thank's to your nick?
