    HDD Error

    Hey guys,

    Just wondering...

I was playing on Guild Wars on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000) and I got a blue screen of death. When i restarted my laptop it came up with HDD error saying it couldn't find it anymore. I turned off, waited a bit and turned it back on... same problem. Turned off and back on again and third time lucky it started fine.

The laptop wasn't overly hot or anything and I hadn't even been playing GW for too long. Should I worry about this or presume it as a one off little sulk and carry on? Any help would be great,

luv you guys for all your help

Might have been a sulk - or could be the first hint of something more serious.

Might be worth checking that the connectors to the hard drive are seated in firmly. How old is the laptop?

As peteb says, it may just be one of those odd events that the windows OS come along from time to time.

Make sure you have reliable backups of your data (and anything else which would be wiped out if your drive does go bad, such as passwords, serial No.s for any software that you don't have physical disks).

    Re: HDD Error

It will certainly be worth checking the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic software, if only just for your own piece of mind. From experience some of the Dell drive retention mechanisms aren't too great and I've seen a few similar failures to this that appear to solve themselves, but it can't hurt to check.
Could be any drive maker in a Dell, most commonly WD or Seagate in those machines.

    WD : Data Lifeguard Tools/Diagnostics http://websupport.wdc.com/rd.asp?p=s.../DLG_V11_0.zip
    Seagate/Maxtor : http://SeaTools http://www.seagate.c...toold_reg.html
    Hitachi : DFT http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/suppor...2_v414_b00.EXE

Sods law dictates it'll be a Fujitsu, who's diagnostic software I forget
