What backup program do you recommend?

Hi. Is there a backup problem which has worked well for you & which you'd recommend? I've used Norton Ghost for years but the recent version is actually a different program than the previous one so I'm looking for a new program to use. I'm giving Paragon Backup a try now & it seems to work well. If anyone else has ever tried it, please let me know what you think about it.

    Backup or Disk Clone?

I use Cobian Backup 9 for my backup needs, it is on par with the more widely known backup software and best of all its free.

I've used Acronis True Image for years, it works well.

Only anomaly is that if you want to backup a RAID 0 setup, you'll have to backup/restore each disk individually as the program won't see a pair of disks as one, even if a RAID 0 is configured.

    The software also clones HDD's.

Paragon is what i've used in the past, worked well for me...where as Acronis didn't for some reason, I don't think it liked the way my sata drive was set up.

That must be driver dependant, as mine (ICHR10 RAID0) is seen as an array, as it is on my P5B Deluxe at work.

It does see a RAID 0 array and it will back it up.

But when you try and reinstall your backup to two disks setup as a RAID 0 it will only see them as two disks, despite them being set up as a RAID 0 array.

I have tried to do that several times, both with an AMD and an Intel system and found it to be true.

I then tried backing up the two disks seperately and successfully reinstated a setup to RAID 0.

btw, older versions of Acronis will not see SATA disks, I think that facility started with Version 9.0.

Paragon is good as well, though I haven't used any of their latest software.

I have a small program of theirs on a floppy disk that was given away with a computer magazine at least ten years ago named Paragon Disk Manager. When I boot with it I can format with several file systems inc ext-2, check disk integrity, un-partition and more.

It sees SATA disks and will see Linux partitions. A fine piece of kit that has proved invaluable to me over the years.

Interesting... I've restored backup images to my RAID0 array fine with no shenanigans when using True Image Home a few times since install.

Re: What backup program do you recommend?

Acronis True Image for complete hard drive images and Genie Backup Manager for daily file backups.

I found the Acronis file backup program to be a bit too resource intensive for my PC.

Re: What backup program do you recommend?

I use Paragon. I beleive Acronis is good, too. There's a free version of Paragon Drive backup with reduced funtionality here: http://www.paragon-software.com/home/db-express/ should be OK unless you need/want more advanced features. For free, it can't hurt to try

    Feature comparison: http://www.paragon-software.com/home...omparison.html
