    What DVI connection is this?

I remember getting it wrong when I first got the graphics card and had to get another cable, but I can't remember now.

I believe it's a DVI-I dual link connection. Is that right?

Also, I'm looking to get an adapter to change a VGA monitor cable to this DVI connection. Any ideas where I can get one cheap?

    Many thanks!

    Yep its DVI-I dual link.

Normally you can get those dvi to vga adaptors free with almost any gfx card you might buy nowadays.

Re: What DVI connection is this?

The adaptor (dvi male to vga female) normally comes with the card.
You can buy them but they are fairly expensive £10-15 if I remember correctly.

The sockets on a video card are full pin ie they will take any dvi lead, for monitor connection you'd want dvi-d or dvi-i (single or dual link will not matter unless you're running multiple monitors off a single cable)

    or a resolution over 1920 × 1200.

Anyone who has paid over £2 for a DVI/VGA adaptor has been done. I've gave loads away on this forum too....£15 makes me cringe

Re: What DVI connection is this?

DVI-I is good, as it allows conversion to analogue due to it carrying analogue signal, the graphics card shouldve come wth one. DVI-D is different as half of the middle small pins are missing.

Re: What DVI connection is this?

dvi-i is best as it allows both digital and analogue signals, and is necessary for HDMI etc.. dvi-d only carries an analogue signal, so will not work on a digital TV or through HDMI

Re: What DVI connection is this?

    DVI-D is digital only
    DVI-A is analogue only
    DVI-I carries both

wait, what? you can do that? I thought after market splitters are only for cloning the image, apart from those special Matrox ones which allowed two monitors from one custom port.

I thought dual-link was for high resolution monitors which need greater bandwidth than a single link can provide?
