    Exclamation Trojan help

On my other PC, I downloaded VirtualDub Portable from portableapps.com. The first time I used it, nothing seemed wrong, but I accidentally deleted the output file so I ran the extractor (installer) a second time and Kaspersky popped up a red alert box notifying my that virtualdub was accessing a trojan.downloader (can't remember full name, sorry) somewhere within application data folder. I have made an online order to Scan with my bank card on the same day and I can't remember if it was before or after I downloaded VirtualDub. Is this anything I should be worried about / is it likely to have stolen my bank details? I'm currently restoring a HDD image from a previous date, even though Kaspersky managed to delete the trojan - just to be safe.

    Thumbs up Re: Trojan help

Be very wary of term "trojan.downloader", it applies to thousands of things, sounds very much like the application was calling back to its owner on-line as you re-installed, personally and for what it is worth, I would worry too much. Kaspersky and others are very quick to act, I would imagine you are using it as a "Resident Shield" working all the time in the background.
I had a mountain crap on my computer after visiting P2P, Warez etc, and constantly was warned of Trojans, Trojan variants, Kegen exe warnings and got rid of them all with a simple free download of "Malware Bytes".

Thanks. You put my mind at rest. I don't often encounter malware as I'm very careful on the net but I do panic when I see something. I have the latest version of Kaspersky Internet Security fully updated and with heuristic scanning enabled so like you said all should be OK. Thanks

You think it's still safe to use my card on that PC, then?

    Re: Trojan help

Personally I would not worry at all only because i have had such horrible things on my PC before, and no longer format to remove items which good software apps can do for me. If Kaspersky has removed the item you should be fine. When you next reboot, check and see if system is all clear, if anything appears do the same scan in safe mode. If it is only once that this has happened to you, you are lucky, on the other hand maybe I have been very unlucky !!
I purchase most things on-line and to date am happy to carry on. On my earlier post I meant to say that my anti-virus is always reporting viruses, trojans etc, which are usually only file extensions which could be from another operating system like 98, or uploaders from applications I have installed similar things might be flash, adobe, Divx, also look at your iexplorer add-ons they are a good hint as to what provides your on-line experience. "Malwarebytes" will clear dodgy registry entries and explorer.

    Re: Trojan help

I reformatted before I thought of uploading it, sorry. I'd advise steering clear of VirtualDub though.

    Re: Trojan help

It might just be a false positive, in fact it probably is. Maybe it's just the portable version, then.
