    Nightmare spyware/malware with IE

    Im having a major problem with my Internet Explorer to the extent that it is now unusable.

    The problems I have are as follows;

    1. When I search for something in google, then click on the search result I will be taken to a totally different site. For example, I just did a test search for "the bbc", and clicked on the BBC homepage which was number 1 in the search results. Instead it took me here;

    http://ads.right-ads.com/?pid=11&sec...=0&q=&cat_id=0

    2. When I type text into a text box (in google for example) characters are going missing. I've just typed "this is a test to demonstrate the problem", and what appeared on screen was "this is a test t dmnstrate the problem"

    3. When I launch i.e I usually get a popup which is blocked by Spyware Doctor.

    So generally as you can see major problems. The above problems do not happen at all with firefox or chrome, and I've spent the last 3 hours trying to sort it.

    Spyware Doctor is installed and up-to-date and finds no problems when I do a full scan or browser scan. I tried downgrading from IE8 to IE7, and also doing a reset of ie which from what I understand is supposed to loose all adds ons etc.

    Does anyone have any ideas about what I can try next to try and fix this extreamly iritating problem!?

    Many thanks.

    Re: Nightmare spyware/malware with IE

    Tried http://www.malwarebytes.org/ ?

    I had a nasty one today at work which was blocking lots of apps, annoyingly including cmd.exe, so lots of apps and AVs wouldn't work. It ended up being started as a driver via HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32\aux2 (this particular one was evident as it mentioned "\windows\system32\..\ihjawd.iha")

    Malwarebytes doesn't find *everything*, but gets more than any other similar app does.

    My usual suite of malwarehunting apps are....

    Malwarebytes
    http://malwarebytes.org/

    procmon, procexp (suspending processes is fun!), tcpview, autoruns, rootkitrevealer,
    http://live.sysinternals.com/

    Only if I ever get really, really stuck, I use HijackThis: http://www.hijackthis.de/

    Yep, Malwarebytes is great, I also use SuperAntiSpyware. Naff name and look, but it is VERY good. You'll need to run CCleaner
    And while you're at it check out Major Geeks for their Malware Removal Guide

    Sorry I can't post any links yet, but someone else may pick up on this and repost with the links

    Good Luck.

    P.S. When you get sorted, I suggest that it would be a wise idea to use Firefox with the NoScript add-on at least for future browsing. And look into using preventative measures such as Spybot S&D's Immunisation tool and SpywareBlaster

    YAY, I can post links now

    http://www.superantispyware.com/index.html

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

    It's worth doing some basic computer housekeeping every week, you'd be suprised at how much it can help keep things as you want them to be!!
