    Hard drive upgrade

Hi, I have a machine running Vista business with a quite a few applications and files on it. I want to change the hard drive to a larger capacity but would rather not re-install all the applications etc. if possible.

Was thinking of using either HDClone or EaseUS to copy the old to the new drive.

Comments, experience and recommendations very much appreciated.

Personally, I use Acronis True Image.

Acronis or Paragon Partition Manager - I use both although I prefer PPM as it gives more control over what you can do with partitions.

    Re: Hard drive upgrade

I used Acronis 10 on my Vista 64 install, but it totally fails to copy the boot sector and won't boot the new hard drive into Vista.

BUT... I can make a back up of it, and then reinstall the backup to the new drive, using the Acronis Boot CD, and it works a treat

You could always save yourself the hassle and just install a second hard disk and leave the original in place. Otherwise I'd use gparted - there's a bootable CD and that will let you do the resize and partition moving for free (as in free software).

    http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

...but be careful and read the docs. Resized NTFS drives will need to do a chkdsk before using them.

Can't say I've heard of HDClone or EaseUS.
