Unable to Install XP on Computer With Vista

    Hello all,
I was helping a friend install XP on a computer with both Vista and Windows 7 installed. However everytime Windows has loaded up all the drivers etc., a blue screen of death appears and we are not able to proceed. My friend is using a Dell Studio 15 laptop. We have searched Google for an answer and the only solution seems to be changing the SATA configuration to "auto-detect". I have searched around the BIOS but have been unable to find such an option. Can anyone provide advice on what to do?
    Much obliged,
    Varmint

XP was before both vista & 7, so if you want to dual/triple boot you will have to in order eg xp cannot see vista, but vista can see xp, and can, make the right alterations to the mbr.

It turns out we had to change the SATA drive configurations, it works now. We weren't trying to dual/triple boot we were trying to format everything and then install XP.

I'm guessing the controller was in AHCI mode, which would require you to put the appropriate controller drivers on a floppy disc and press F6 during text mode setup to load the drivers. AHCI gives you Native Command Queing but not much else in turns of benefits, and some drives are faster with it switched off, depending on the task at hand.

Yeah, we had to change it to ATA mode.
