    Dodgy VGA cable...

My VGA cable from thatcable.com has just arrived so I connected everything up and my monitor defaulted to a very low resolution. I tried to change back to 1680x1050 in both display properties and in CCC but it wasn't listed in either. When I looked at display properties it said the monitor was a non plug-and-play monitor. Everything was fine when I changed back to the original cable so it's either a faulty cable or that model has a signal pin disconnected. Does anyone else have experience with that cable because I don't want to wait for a replacement only to find it's the same.
    Thanks

Or does anyone have any experience with the quality of products from this company in general?

    Hi,

Neither I'm afraid, where are you located? I have about 20+ of these since we use dvi

    Re: Dodgy VGA cable...

I suspect you were just unlucky. I bought an S-video cable from another cheap online e -taioler. They replaced it without any problem, but I suspect the QC by the mfrs are non-existant - n=hence the low cost.

If you want guranteed quality (or a more convenient outlet if it is faulty) you are better off buying a branded cable or from a retail outlet - but you pay for that re-assurance.

    Re: Dodgy VGA cable...

I had a similar problem recently whilst upgrading network drivers (?). Took all the drivers off, reinstalled them all and everything was okay.

I'm not in a rush for it or anything, the one I'm using works just there's a lot of blur/ghosting which is annoying. I wouldn't waste my money on something like a Belkin cable (I've heard they're crap) which is pretty much all high street shops sell and the price they sell them for is ridiculous. I've emailed the company but it's just a pain waiting for replies...

    Re: Dodgy VGA cable...

Personally, I would agree with what has already been said about the unreliability of anonymous manufacturers. Being in the process of building a new system now, I've discovered more or less the same principle, also the hard way, like you. I dislike spending the money, but it seems to be the only real alternative to playing pot luck.

Also, forgive me if this is a nonsensical statement, I was under the impression that VGA doesn't offer the same image quality as a dvi, clearly not anything like what you're describing, but is this the case?

I know it's a touch off subject as well, but this seemed like a likely place to find a good answer.

    Re: Dodgy VGA cable...

Unfortunately I can't use DVI on this monitor but I thought a new cable would be worth a try and TBH, although it was at a low resolution, I couldn't see any ghosting with the other cable.

Hi, is the offer still open for a cable if you can find one? Got the replacement today and it's the same as the other one I got - defaults to low resolution etc. If you have a 1.8m one that's about the ideal length I'm after. How much do you want for it?
    Thanks
