I'm haven't tried conveting the setting in the bios as i wondered if it woul dmess up my install.

    Re: IDE to AHCI

It won't touch the data, just change it in BIOS.

    Re: IDE to AHCI

I did that once and my PC failed to boot... data wasn't damaged though so I just switched it back again and everything was fine.

    Re: IDE to AHCI

    Well i just changed it.

The pc started up and as it got to the windows logo it crashed. It then restarted and comes up saying,
Windows was unable to start (or something like that)
I then have two options. Repair it or boot normaly.

What do you reckon i should do.

So far it restarted the pc change dit back to ide mode and selected normally.

    Re: IDE to AHCI

Well following this guide i changed the mode into ahci and the pc now boots into windows fine.

The next problem i've got though is that it won't boot from a cd when in ahci mode. It just doesn't even look for one.

Now this is a big problem as one of the reason i needed to be in ahci mode was becausce i needed to boot from the CD in AHCI.
