Looking to upgrade GPU

I currently have a 8800GT 512MB, and since the new STALKER, t just doesn't seem to be cutting it no more.. so time for an upgrade.

I've been looking into one of the GT260's, they seem pretty decent cards.. then again, aren't some new ones coming out soon? DX11 looks nice.

Anyway, could anyone recommend me a GPU? My current price range is around £80-£140

For that price range you can pick up an ATi 4890/5770. The 4890 is faster but the 5770 has DX11 and uses a lot less power! On the other hand you could wait a bit more (2 weeks-ish) and pick up a Radeon 5830 which should have performance just short of a GTX 285. The 5830 will probably sell for around £180 at most i would guess.

XFX, MSI, Sapphire? Is they any significant difference?

Would seem funny switching to ATI, I've been with Nvidia for so long... but nevertheless, this looks an awesome card

Usually brand doesnt make a huge difference, i just get the one which is cheapest. My personal preference if they were the same price would be Sapphire > MSI > XFX

I would wait for the HD5830 TBH. Having near GTX285 performance with a power envelope lower than that of an HD4850 sounds really great!!

It is hard to say!! It is meant to replace the HD4890.

I prefer the HD5770 because it has lower power consumption,DX11 and AFAIK is a good overclocker too. OTH,I own an SFF PC with a 400W PSU so obviously an HD5770 would be a better choice for me over the GTX260.

Ok, thanks I've just spent some time looking into the 5770, and to be honest, got a little confused with all the manufacturers :s

The HD5850 1GB is a powerful graphics but £220 is a lot of money TBH!!

However with launch drivers the HD5850 1GB was faster than a GTX285 1GB in the games tested in this review:
