    Cool and Quiet not being!

I reinstalled my HTPC a while ago (from Win 7 RC to WIn 7 retail), and I've recently noticed that Cool & Quiet doesn't seem to be working any more. I have it turned on in the BIOS, and I thought I'd installed all the latest drivers for everything, but my CPU steadfastly refuses to lower it's speed or core voltage when it's idle. System specs are a Sempron 140 in an ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO.

Any thoughts? Have I just missed a driver? Or is it something more serious?

Have you tried putting the bios back to default settings first?

Something worth checking is the power management from the control panel should be set to "balanced" or "power-saver".

I've not, no - I'll give that a go if the power management settings don't work.

Ah, that could be it - I've not changed power management since I did the install so it could be defaulted to something unhelpful! I'll check that tonight.

    damn right....

I spent the first 4 weeks of Vista 64 ownership cursing it's In Game performance as being... sh1t3.

And you know why? Cos Vista has defaulted to a CPU max speed of 50% on all 4 cores. God only knows why.....

    So check those power features.....

Re: Cool and Quiet not being!

Cheers guys, sure enough power settings were on high performance. Now on power saving, although tbh I've got my power meter plugged in and it only seems to make about 2W difference at idle. Might have to try playing with different amounts of CPU load to see wether it makes enough difference to worry about (to be fair, this could be to do with the fact that my CPU is already heavily undervolted... )

Standard should be 5% minimum and 100% maximum

then the MOBO will sort it all out for you.
