PSU question

I bought an Arctic Cooling 550R PSU on here and the problem is the +12V is 4-pin whereas my motherboard requires 8 pins. I tried it with the 4 pin and all I can hear are the fans spinning , no POST beep or display. I am assuming the PSU doesn't get enough juice through the 4-pins.

Now, how do I go about this?

A> Buy 4-pin to 8-pin converter
B> Buy Molex to 8-pin converter
C> Use my existing Molex to 8-pin PCIE converter

Don't use the PCI-E 8 pin, it will damage your board!!!

Have you tried using the 'other' 4-pin slots for the connector, thats all i did when i was in the same position as you.

Sounds like you need to do one of B or C, or alternatively return the power supply and get one with the needed 8pin connector?

I don't have any experience of them myself, but i know Scan and a few other places do PCI-e > 8-pin, i think just using a standard molex > 8-pin PCI-E connector may damage the board.

it doesnt matter, so long as the 4 pins been placed where shown it will run fine, the fact it doesnt points to it being DOA or another issue.

the 8 pins for a bit more current when running the top of theline chip overclocked.

even the R2E thats designed for overclocking comes with a blanking cap over 4 of the pins out the box !

I am going to try the PSU on my other P4 PC and see if it works. I bought it from here so there shouldn't be a problem. If it can power up the P4 PC, I'll pop to Maplins and get a Molex to 8-pin for £3.
