Power LED flashes - then nothing

Hi, I just put together my first pc, and this is what I was worried about.

Everything is (I hope) plugged in as it should be. However when I press the on button, I get a flash from the PWR LED then nothing else, no fans or anything.

I think it could be to do with the way in which the F_PANEL is arranged along with the cables from the front, I dont know whether they are +ve or -ve, theres just an arrow/triangle pointing away from 1 of the cables.

    Spec's are - Corsair TX650w PSU
    - GA-MA770-UD3
    - Antec 300 case
    - HIS HD 5770
    - 2x2gb Kingston HyperX 800Mhz
    - Phenom II X4 940
    - WD 500gb SATA HDD
    - Sony Optiarc DVD drive

thanks for any help, my dad'll kill me if it won't work

Check to see if there are any shorts in the case i.e. bare connectors touching the case and double-check all connections. Try running the PSU by connecting a few things to add a bit of load (fans, disk drives for example) then short the green and a black wire on the 24-pin connector (when it's not plugged in, also make sure the CPU power connector is unplugged) with a paperclip.

Did you use the standoffs to space the motherboard from the case?

Did you use to many? not all motherboards use all of the holes. Check the back of the case check you don't have an extra one. Normally around the extension slot area.

Try starting the PSU with a paperclip outside the PC.

Re: Power LED flashes - then nothing

Ok unplug everything, hard disk, optical drive, front panel connectors etc. Just leave in processor, one stick of memory and the graphics card. Make the the CPU fan is connected, Make sure the ATX power connector is present, also the ATX power. Your graphics card, make sure is firmy in place, and if it has a power connector that must be connected, now connect the power switch from the front and try it. Check you user manual to make sure the memory is ik n the correct slot to populate it.

Also make sure the memory is correctly in place, it should have a bumb to make sure you cannot put it in the wrong way round.

No worries. If anything was dead on arrival you can should be able to get it replaced no problem - just contact the retailer and ask to RMA it.
