    Wireless Network Help!!

    Hey there guys,

I just wanted to know if this was possible. basically i want to be able share ALL my files with another computer. i.e. my bedroom computer with the HTPC. i want to be able to be able to videos from my room.

Problem: last time i tried this sort of thing with the ps3, there was a major lag, i tried to play some videos but it would freeze. so i am not sure if it has anything to do with my USB dongle thing that i use.

also would it be possible to NOT have a shared folder more of a portal to get into my computer?

    thanks.

The lag you describe was probably because of a low connection speed i.e. poor signal - how close is the router to the PS3? Which PC has which OS?

    Re: Wireless Network Help!!

Are you trying to share the files from your XP or Win7 computer? On XP you should be able set it to share the entire drive(s) - just right click on the drive in My Computer, go to Properties, and there should be a Sharing tab there that will allow you to share the contents of the drive over the network. It'll tell you that it's a bad idea to share an entire drive, but you can do it anyway.

I think Win7 doesn't allow you to share the root drive. There might be some workarounds for this, but I'm not familiar with it.

As for playback problems - were you connected via wireless on the PC/PS3? If so then it's likely that this would happen. Wireless is generally not as fast as wired connections, and not likely to work so well for streaming video. I had the same issue when trying to stream from my laptop to my 360 - it would work sometimes, but a lot of the time it would lag.

    Re: Wireless Network Help!!

you'll probably struggle with things like large video files. i appreciate you already have a USB dongle & this will mean buying additional kit, but a wired connection via homeplugs might be a better alternative
if it ain't broke...fix it till it is
