    sending items overseas?

Hello fellew hexus members im going to pick some brains and really hope that someone here has some knowlege about what im going to ask you....so to cut a long story short, i sell items on ebay and currently ive had 1 guy say that the item never arrived and that customs had got the item and had quarantine'd it....this first makes me wonder why? and also if the guy is lying...would custom contact him over it??

either way i need a disclaimer that i can add to the auction as i dont know the whole worlds customs laws....please take this as a serious matter guys...i know what some of you are like

P.S i do not sell anything illegal and will happily tell you what it is i just see no point unless needed...just covering that!

    Re: sending items overseas?

Depends on the destination country and package contents. My other half buys alot of clothing from HK and has more than a few times incurred the wrath of customs charges. Customs are free to check on any package they see fit and present the recipient with the charges.

I think with eBay, it's his problem and not yours.. (don't hold me to that) but I'm not entirely sure as you state the package has been placed in quarantine.

Is that all the information he's given you?

Some more information on customs can be found here - http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/index.htm / http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg...79717544&r.s=m

    Re: sending items overseas?

Have you checked it's legal to send the item in question to the destination country?

    Re: sending items overseas?

This is the suggested disclaimer given by ebay:

    International Buyers – Please Note:

Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.

Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.

These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up – do not confuse them for additional shipping charges.

We do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as "gifts" - US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.

    Re: sending items overseas?

you need to ask the buyer to contact the custom by himself. if he doesnt pay the duty or pick it up from customs, they will send it back to you. that is normally what happens. At least it happened to me once in germany. I bought an item, custom seized it. I didnt want to pay for the duty so custom sent it back to the seller and i had to pay extra just for them to send it to me back home in malaysia where we dont get charged duty.

Many countrys dont like you importing animals or plants due to the risk of parasites or disease hitching a lift.
