Data recovery ? Run at startup

    1) A family friend had the HDD on his MacBook die. It was replaced by Apple, but he has all the photos and videos of his new son on it. (no backups) Can anyone recommend a trustworthy data recovery service ?

    2) I found the heat issue I had with the CF setup was that the fans were not accelerating under load (?) RPM was flat under CCC, Only with Afterburner can I get an increase in flow. I'm trying to get Afterburner to load on Startup or Logon for the kids so that their games don't crash, but AB won't load at startup, and UAC stops it running for the kids.
How do I set up W7 so that it launches AB on startup for all users ?

    Thanks.

    Phage,

I was given the URL of a good data recovery service by someone on here but for some reason can't find the actual post. If have have any joy later I will post it.
Of course I'm perfect you just need to lower your expectations.

Re: Data recovery ? Run at startup

Actually, I maybe out of luck here as hexus only allows me to look at the last 250 posts and you can bet that it's in a post previous to this.

I shall have a look at some of the other threads and see if I can find the guy who gave me the URL.

Kroll Ontrack (used to be called Vogon). Expensive however they do the job, many scams out there which do advanced fee fraud.

If the drive still works, take it out and image it with an linux machine and mount the image using HFS drivers in linux.

Exactly why I wanted to ask you lot. Don't want to be held to ransom for this stuff.

Not sure. He's my cousin-in-law, and he lives in London and I don't have access to the machine or drive. He just asked me last weekend as I'm front-line support for the family. Easier if we can find a quality service that will just get it done for him.

Re: Data recovery ? Run at startup

You should be able to use task scheduler to make AB start after logon, and if you set it up right it will also run it in limited user accounts.

    I tried that - nothing happens !
Create task - at logon - AB.exe - run as admin. .........Nothing. Just doesn't launch.
Even if I try and run the exe from inside a user account I get a UAC popup asking for the Admin password.

    +1 on the scammers.

You might want to look at this site

    www.datarecoverycompanies.co.uk

It lists some of the more reputable DR companies (and includes a few scare stories about those that are.. er - less reputable )
