Hm that could be a good idea...but again i have anouther 2 disks that have the same problem with this drive, it will just keep trying to spin the disk up and windows will try loading for god knows how long, not to mention the disks did work before in this exact drive,

Check the DRM on each, because I had this issue with my drive and an incompatability causes by iTunes plus the Cyberpower software.

Re: Scans RMA with "no fault found"

Guys observe this....i posted this back in the thread and chances are it may get removed, so im going to post it here

""So the item arrived back, with a few changes aswell! for starters where did this come from?

A little scuff dent, not that this is major but not exspected, but down to the point! take a look at this video.

    http://s144.photobucket.com/albums/r...t=MOV00261.mp4

And now try and tell me the dvd drive is fine? you watched the video right? would you like a demonstration in anouther pc? maybe a few laptops loading this disk aswell? you can clearly see the disk is not in bad condition.

Did you test as i asked? or just put the disk in and let it read once? so far ive managed to get this damn drive to read my disk once, even then it took it forever!

So, am i a happy customer of scans still? no, would i use scan again? properly but i will avoid at all costs, Saying the drive works and then me proving it wrong...funny that is it not? you said that you tested a disk out but have no proof? ive got SOLID proof right here so now tell me i'm wrong and there is "NO FAULT FOUND" as i can CONSISTENTLY replecate this problem, yes if i constantly put the disk in and out it may load, but the point is this, should a drive of its age (what 5 months now?) do this?

You have really wound me up with this but what am i to do, yes i could take it further, but what is the point? scan obviously dont like it when an item gos wrong and wont refund EVEN WHEN PROVEN WRONG.

So, after that what do you have to say? im intrested to here the next excuse.""

A video of solid proof the dvd drive does not work correctly, yet at there end "it worked" without any problems, ha fancy that i would follow up with video proof huh.

You could try seeing if there are any firmware updates available for this drive (in the mean time while you are waiting on scan)

    We are looking into this...

Just make something clear this isn't a case of doubting that the drive does not work in your system, on the other hand it is factual that no fault can be replicated here at SCAN, the drive has been tested as advised with the same media and we have not been able to replicate the fault and therefore found the drive No Fault Found.

Your thread in the SCAN section is still present and I can let you know it won't be removed, there is no reason to.

To re-iterate to replace the drive a fault needs to be confirmed when tested on a test bench.

    Best Regards

Re: Scans RMA with "no fault found"

I'd just buy a new drive tbh.

They're hardly big dough.. keep that as a spare .. it works with other disks.

If it were a £400 CPU I'd leave it with Scan to test for a long time... for a CD drive, I'd just buy another.

I tend to buy them every year or so anyway... they're like hard drives... you get the odd wobbly one... it's a game of numbers. Millions made, a few are bound to have the odd issue with the odd disk.

Re: Scans RMA with "no fault found"

Razer, Scan have proved the drive isn't faulty, so perhaps it's something else? If you've installed a new game it might have come with a copy protection system that's resident on your computer, causing read issues. Your Windows driver might be set to use a different UDMA mode etc. etc. I have had read ability be affected by software in the past (and think I'm currently suffering from similar with some disks).

Re: Scans RMA with "no fault found"

You could eliminate DRM doubt by booting into Linux from a LiveCD or USB Stick and then trying to read the disk there. Shouldn't be any software conflicts that way - just a pure hardware test.

Re: Scans RMA with "no fault found"

Drive has been tested in my gfs pc, same problem so def not my pc, take note it was a fresh install on her pc aswell! ive been offered a refund on the drive in qeustion, but unless scan pick it up im not going to bother, due to it costing £12 for the item, and already costing me £6 in postage the first time round, so i would be wasting my time....im currently awaiting a email back!

Scan proved it? take a read of this,

"Then I got a re-test request, in that one of the disks it failed to read was Left 4 Dead 2, we got a retail copy of L4D2. I Copy/Pasted the entire DVD to a folder on the Hard Disk, then installed Steam and installed the game, as I have already stated on the RMA."

Noticed what disk the dvd drive failed to read? like i said to them it did sometimes, by luck read the disk, but even at there end it didnt read the disk so doesnt really prove much there does it?

Would it be ok if you bought a cooker and the oven didnt always get hot? no

This is a display of complete ignorance and all over a £12 drive. Well i'm not about to just let it drop, i've read so many threads with scan screwing people over and i'm going to be the A$$ who stands up to them.

But first i'm going to have to ask something, if something is faulty, is it or is it not the bisness, being scan in this case to pay for the postage?

Scan have offered a refund, but exspect me to pay anouther round of £6, which would then leave me £12 short....the drive costs £12! so am i right in thinking that i shouldnt have to pay this? whats the point in me sending it back? i was offered free postage...what good is that to me when i get free postage and was intent on buying a drive which cost more than £20!

Angry? yes. So still believe it is something to do with my system anyone lol

In my view, that entirely depends on whether the drive is faulty, and if it is, whether that fault was inherent at time of sale. If it did have an inherent fault, then you're entitled to not expect to pay return shipping for a defective product. If, on the other hand, it's not defective and Scan are offering a refund as a gesture when they're not legally obliged to, then I'd say they're already doing more than they need, as they will either be replacing or refunding, and ending up with second-hand drive that they can't sell as new.

So, it all depends on whether it's faulty or not, with an inherent fault.

Right now, it seems that you say "yes it is" and Scan say "no it isn't".

In the final analysis, that determination will rest with a court, if you take it that far, and that may well come down to an assessment by a third-party "expert" preparing a report for that court.

It is eminently possibly that both you and Scan genuinely believe you are in the right over this. And that's why we have courts. If you and Scan have done all you both can to resolve this and failed, then I'd say it's a simple binary choice - either you let it drop, or you don't and the court gets to decide. I can't see there's much more to say.

Re: Scans RMA with "no fault found"

Thanks for your advice, i look at it like this, they openly admit that it failed 1 test reading the L4D2 disk, this si the main problem i've had with it so ive got proof it failed for them aswell, ive also provided a video to show this aswell, with the L4D2 disk so i cannot really see me loosin this fight, but its not about the money, as it is only £12, its the principle and the fact scan are just ignoring all the facts.
