PC won't wake up from sleep mode...

I left my PC on for over an hour earlier today while i nipped out to get a few bits... When i got back the power light was flashing and the screen was off so i assumed the PC had gone into sleep or hibernation mode. Problem is, i couldn't get the damn thing to wake up! I moved the mouse, clicked mouse buttons, pressed many keys on the keyboard and even pressed the power and reset buttons on the PC itself... none of this worked so i had to switch it off at the wall.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm running the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium and my system spec is listed in the drop down menu below my username to the left. Any help is much appreciated as i don't want to turn off all power saving features, but want to be able to wake my PC up. Sometimes the screen will turn off after 20 mins which wakes up just by moving the mouse.

Anyone have any ideas? I've disabled sleep mode in the Windows 7 power settings for now... Not really what i wanted to do though.

No help I'm afraid - but I sometimes get this same problem myself, and have to reboot the machine.

    Very annoying.

Here too. I've disabled all sleep/hibernation in the power profile.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Re: PC won't wake up from sleep mode...

Increase chipset voltage - don't know what it's called for your set up, but this happens on Intel setups if the IOH voltages are too low.

Re: PC won't wake up from sleep mode...

Could it be possible that Windows 7 is powering down the USB ports when in sleep or hibernation mode? Both my keyboard and mouse are USB so if the ports are powered down then obviously no amount of button bashing or mouse moving is going to wake up the system! Just a thought.

    Fixed!

Changed it so windows can't 'switch off USB to save energy' and the problem went away.
